Safety Harbor is the home of the historic Espiritu Santo Springs, a natural mineral spring. Its waters were given this name in 1539 by the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, who was supposedly searching for the mythical "Fountain of Youth". In the twentieth century, Espiritu Santo water was bottled and sold commercially. Years later, the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa was built over the springs and to this day is a prominent visitor attraction in Pinellas County.
Safety Harbor offers easy access to the Tampa International and St. Petersburg/ Clearwater International Airports. A wide range of dining, entertainment, recreation and shopping activities are available at Safety Harbor. Cultural events, arts & crafts festivals, Safety Harbor Sprints, the Annual Seafood Festival and marina concerts attract visitors from around the world.
A relatively small laid back town, Safety Harbor is mostly taken over as suburban community, yet still yields an old town atmosphere along with a Tampa Bay marina and fishing pier. Residents feel a sense of peace after purchasing Safety Harbor real estate and find it a delightful place to live.
